Houston Astrodome baseball history (1965–1999)
The Houston Astros played in the Astrodome from 1965 through 1999. The world's first domed stadium brought climate-controlled Major League Baseball to Houston, introduced AstroTurf in 1966, hosted two MLB All-Star Games, and became known as the Eighth Wonder of the World.

- The Astros beat the New York Yankees 2–1 in an exhibition game when the Astrodome opened on April 9, 1965. The first regular-season game followed three days later.
- Indoor baseball and AstroTurf
- The stadium placed the field under an 18-story, 642-foot-span dome in a 72-degree setting. The Astros introduced the artificial surface that became known as AstroTurf in 1966.
- Baseball landmarks
- The Astrodome hosted the 1968 and 1986 MLB All-Star Games. Six no-hitters were thrown there, including Nolan Ryan's record fifth career no-hitter in 1981.
- Final Astros season
- Houston clinched its third straight NL Central title in the last regular-season game at the Astrodome on October 3, 1999. The Astros played their final game there on October 9.
- The Astrodome today
- The stadium still stands in NRG Park. Harris County published renovation and demolition cost estimates in December 2025 and said no timeline had been set for a decision.
