Remembering old Yankee Stadium (1923–2008)
Old Yankee Stadium was the Yankees' Bronx home from April 18, 1923, through September 21, 2008. Called "The House That Ruth Built," it opened with Babe Ruth hitting the park's first home run, reopened after a two-year mid-1970s renovation, and hosted 85 years of sports and civic history.

- Yankee Stadium opened on April 18, 1923. The Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 4–1 before a reported crowd of 74,200, and Babe Ruth hit the stadium's first home run.
- The rebuilt stadium
- The Yankees played at Shea Stadium during the 1974 and 1975 seasons while Yankee Stadium was rebuilt. It reopened on April 15, 1976.
- Landmark moments
- The old stadium hosted Lou Gehrig's 1939 farewell, Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series, Reggie Jackson's three-homer World Series game in 1977, and many other milestones.
- The final game
- The Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 7–3 on September 21, 2008. Mariano Rivera threw the stadium's final pitch.
- What remains
- Much of the former footprint became part of Macombs Dam Park. The site includes public ballfields and markers that recall the old stadium.
